
Back in the Game—Oh, Yeah!
Seattle University sophomore Cervante Burrell scored the game-winning shot in the Redhawks’ thrilling win, 85-84, over Fresno State on Nov. 19. The victory signaled a strong start to the team’s first full season at KeyArena at Seattle Center. The big night began by honoring former SU star player and NBA legend Elgin Baylor, for whom the court at KeyArena is named.

A Night to Shine
Legendary R&B songstress Gladys Knight got the crowd moving at Seattle University’s 2009 For the Difference We Make Gala. Knight was the headliner of the annual black-tie fundraiser, Nov. 14 at Seattle’s Westin Hotel. The event brought out 800 friends, donors and supporters of SU and raised more than $620,000 for scholarships.

Top It Off
President Stephen Sundborg, S.J., joined members of the campus community in signing the final beam to be installed as part of the new Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons. Following the signature session the beam was lifted into place as part of a “Topping Off” ceremony, an ancient tradition that celebrates the laying of the final beam atop an important, new building. The library and learning commons opens next fall.

In Remembrance
Members of the campus and greater community came together to honor and reflect on the lives of the El Salvador martyrs, the six Jesuits and two lay women murdered 20 years ago this November at the University of Central America. Campus Ministry hosted a series of events to remember the victims, culminating with Resucito! Living the Legacy of the El Salvador Martyrs, a panel discussion and procession on Nov. 16.

Premier Recognition
BusinessWeek has honored the part-time MBA program at Seattle University Albers School of Business and Economics as one of the top 25 in the nation. This follows a similar ranking by U.S. News & World Report. In the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person, Albers incorporates ethics, social responsibility and global awareness into every aspect of an education.
